Mann uses a fictional 40-year reunion between Goethe and Lotte, inspiration for the character of Charlotte in his novel The Sorrows of Young Werther, to assess Goethe’s genius.

A truly remarkable copy - a clean, crisp, square, and immaculate copy, very fine in an extraordinary example of the original fragile fold-over white dust wrapper which is still clean and crisp with just a bit of faint toning to edges and the most minute tears at folds, in the original slip-case. The slip-case shows moderate toning and a bit of modest wear to extreme edges, but is overall a very good case that has done an exemplary job of protecting its contents.
