The collection includes poems from North & South (1946), A Cold Spring (1955 - winner of the Pulitzer Prize), Questions of Travel (1965 - winner of the National Book Award), Geography III (1976 - winner of the National Book Critics' Circle Award), poems written before Bishop's death in 1979 (North Haven - an elegy for Robert Lowell, Pink Dog, Sonnet, and Santarem), previous uncollected poems like Exchanging Hats and A Norther-Key West, and four poems from the 30s which were never reprinted. In addition, there are six poems never before published, including Pleasure Seas and five occasional poems, eleven youthful poems written at Walnut Hill School and Vassar between 1927 and 1933; and uncollected translations of poems by Max Jacob, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Octavio Paz, and others. Altogether there are fifty previously unpublished or uncollected poems. This edition also includes corrections and changes which the author made to poems after their initial publication.
