New York & London: The Viking Press / A. Zwemmer LTD, 1961.
First Edition. Hardcover.

Publisher's review copies, review slip laid in. Signed by the author on first free endpapers of both volumes, with presentation inscription in Volume I "For Marion (fellow architectural historian and Harvard alum Marion Dean Ross), with warm regards. Eugene, May, 1964."

This monograph is the first in English in which all of Michelangelo's architecture is collected and analyzed; it draws upon the accomplishment of a century of scholarship in five countries, which has brought to light letters, documents, notes and drawings of and about the great Florentine, and has revealed his true stature as an architect and engineer.  Volume I contains a critical review of all of the major buildings, and their theoretical and historical background, for the general reader. The Catalogue supplements the first volume and is intended for more detailed study. It assembles the results of scholarly investigations on all buildings by or attributed to Michaelangelo and proposes many new conclusions on chronology and authorship. Item #900591
