In this comic thriller by Alfred Hitchcock, beautiful Margaret Lockwood, traveling across Europe by train, meets a charming spinster (Dame May Whitty) who disappears. Ms. Lockwood investigates and is drawn into a complex web of mystery and adventure. Michael Redgrave also stars in this tour-de-force that was named Best Picture of 1938 by the New York Times. Notably, Hitchcock received the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Director in 1939 for his work on The Lady Vanishes – the only time in Hitchcock's career that he received an award for his direction.
