Chinese Baskets: Anthropology Design Series No. 3

Chicago: Field Museum of Natural History, 1925.
First Edition. Portfolio.

A portfolio of plates of Chinese artistic baskets from the Yangtse Valley and the country stretching southward. Chinese basketry has historically reflected not only pleasing forms and attractive decorations, but has also been combined with other materials like wood, metal, lacquer, and paint, and been used to decorate other forms like boxes, chests, and silver bowls and cups. This publication does not aim at a scientific study of the subject, but is primarily intended for the designer, craftsman, and art student. For those interested in the techniques used in each basket’s production, information as to weave, design, and locality of origin is provided on each plate.

Item #900879

9 x 12", portfolio of 38 loose photographic plates of Chinese baskets introduced by folded sheet with title-page and two-page preface, in folding card sheath and slip-case.

Plates and title sheet are fine and unblemished. Sheath has a bit of very mild bumping to head of spine. Slip-case shows a bit of edge-wear, but is in remarkable condition overall.

Price: $55.00
