Includes 48 engravings in 53 numbered plates, (6 of which are double-page, 5 of these having been assigned two consecutive numbers, and 1 double-page plate having been assigned a single plate number - Plate #30). 25 plates of designs by Inigo Jones (5 double-page), 21 plates of designs by William Kent (1 double-page), 1 by Lord Burlington (Richard Boyle), and 1 design that has been attributed to I. Ware (“Alcove”).
These classic neo-Palladian designs include chimney pieces, stair-cases, a theatre, ceilings, mouldings, altar pieces, screens, room plans and elevations, and landscape structures (including garden seats, a temple, and an obelisk designed by William Kent who was considered to be the originator of the English landscape garden).Item #900990
Small quarto, 7 x 9-3/4", full calf, raised bands, black titled label engraved title page, 5pp Table of the Several Plates, followed by 48 engravings in 53 numbered plates, complete.
Both boards detached and quite worn, binding incorrectly dated 1765 at heel of spine and “Date about 1765” has been penciled onto base of engraved urn statuette on title-page, soiling (particularly at fore-edges), two small chips to fore-edges of two plates, good.
