The Way of a Trout with a Fly and Some Further Studies in Minor Tactics

London: A. & C. Black, Ltd., 1921.
First Edition. Hardcover.

First Edition of the author’s second book and a fly fishing classic.

The author explains in his forward that his original goal in approaching this book had been to examine and elucidate all the schools of thought and methodology about trout-fly dressing and produce a single comprehensive and instructive manual on the subject. He subsequently realized that no such undertaking would be possible until science had focused on the study of trout eyesight and had conclusively determined what trout see in terms of form and color. Instead he has provided the reader with a collection of his reflections on the true theory of trout-fly dressing and extends a hope that these reflections would one day inform future scientific researchers and fly-fishers tasked with creation of such a manual. To this he has added materials intended to supplement his previous work on nymph fishing technique and methodology.
