G. E. M. Skues (1858–1949) was a British lawyer, author and fly fisherman best known for the discovery and advocacy of modern-day nymph fishing.

A collection of articles originally published in various periodicals (many pseudonymously) including Field, The Fishing Gazette, The Salmon and Trout Magazine, The Bulletin of the Angers’ Club of New York and the Journal of the Fly-Fishers’ Club. In his preface, Mr. Skues credits the goading of friends as motivation for writing this book: “When are you going to give us another book? Surely you have accumulated enough material since the last.” He claims that he has weakly, unwillingly, “pitched the various manuscripts together more or less higgledy-piggledy and is flinging the mass at their heads with a 'Here, confound you, take the lot.'" As per usual, Mr. Skues is grossly underrating his many contributions to the fields of fly-fishing and letters. Paul Schullery’s estimation of Skue’s prowess (Skues on Trout, 2007): “His self-deprecating and deceptively simple-sounding writings on trout and fly fishing remain among the wisest and most revealing in the sport's enormous literature.”
