While his father is on a cattle drive, young Travis Coates must care for the family ranch and his mother and younger brother. First thought a rascal, Old Yeller becomes an invaluable asset to the family and a great friend to young Travis, who must make a difficult decision when the dog is bitten while protecting the family from a rabid wolf.
