This ecclectic compilation of presidential facts collected by Harper's editor Lewis Lapham includes Presidential reflections (James Buchanan to incoming president Abraham Lincoln - "if you are as happy, my dear sir, on entering this house as I am in leaving it and returning home, you are the happiest man in this country"), Secret Service code names (e.g., Ronald Reagan - Rawhide), First Pets, the names of 8 presidents who never attended college (Lincoln included), breakdown of the number of animals (from a total of 296 kills) killed by Theodore Roosevelt on his East African expedition for the Smithsonian in 1893 (including 9 lions and 13 rhinoceroses), campaign songs, nicknames (John Tyler was known as "His Accidency"), and White House event menus.
