Opie served in the 6th Virginia Confederate Cavalry in the Army of Northern Virginia. Opie relates his experiences at Harper's Ferry, Manassas, M'Dowell, Antietam, Rowlesburg, Faimont, and Clarksburg, and with the Clarke Cavalry, Generals Stonewall Jackson, Jeb Stuart, and Robert E. Lee. He was captured in the Shenandoah Valley in 1864 and imprisoned in Elmira, New York. A young Confederate soldier's perspective on the Civil War.
