The author has penned a rearrangement of a stanza appearing on p.264 of this work on the first blank. The six line excerpt is from "Burns and Byron." In the printed version, the stanza begins "In men whom men condemn as ill" and Mr. Miller has begun this version with "In men whom men pronounce divine" - the original 1st and 2nd lines having been moved to 3rd and 4th position. The new version is signed and dated by the author Nov. 1900, in S.F., Cal. First Edition, BAL 13751. Issue A with 4pp publisher's ads preceding title page in the following order: Thoughts About Art, Pink & White Tyranny, The Earthly Paradise, & The Handy Volume Series. Terracotta binding B with Roberts Bros. surrounding wheel hub heel of spine and gilt bear decoration front board. Contains poems not present in the London edition which preceded it. Dent front board, upper corners of boards bumped, a bit of mild rubbing to cloth, small label removed upper corner first paste-down endpaper with residue left behind and a bit of loss to brown surface of endpaper where label has been removed, tight, internally very clean, very good overall.
