George Mills (1982) is a novel in five parts telling the family history of succeeding generations of subservient characters named George Mills. The full novel covers more than 1,000 years from the First Crusade in Europe to present-day America.

In The First George Mills, the title character, who knows nothing about horses, is sent to Jerusalem with his liege Guillalume, who knows even less about horses and nothing about geography, to fight in the Crusades. They become lost and end up in a salt mine in Poland.
