Intertidal Invertebrates of California

Stanford, CA: Stanford University Press, 1980.
Photography by Donald Abbott & Eugene Clinton Haderlie. Hardcover.

1981 Printing. A wealth of information on the more common invertebrates of California’s coastal waters concentrating on those special that are conspicuous enough to attract the eye and distinctive enough to be identified from a color photograph and a short description. The text is organized along systematic lines, with chapters on major groups (sponges, sea star, etc.). The text for each species describes distinctive characters, range and habitat, and much of what is known about life history, interactions with other species, economic importance, and current research. Though California’s coastline is the focus, many of the species extend beyond Puget Sound to the north or Baja California to the south, and research on related species in other parts of the world is discussed.
