This edition of The Fables of Aesop was first published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1909.

313 classic morality tales attributed to the Greek fabulist and storyteller Aesop and illustrated by Edward Julius Detmold. The work of Detmold (1883-1957) was heavily influenced by Japanese traditional art, Albrecht Durer and the late Art Nouveau movement, evidenced in the beautiful 23 colour plates and numerous pen & ink drawings included here.

Typeset at The Folio Society in Monotype Modern Extended. Printed on St. Paul’s Wove paper at St. Edmundsbury Press, Bury St. Edmunds. Colour illustrations printed at Amadeus Press Ltd, Huddersfield. Bound in full cloth at Hunter & Foulis, Edinburgh. Detmold’s binding design was redrawn by David Eccles.
