Boston: Bulfinch Press Book / Little, Brown and Company, 1990.
First Edition. Hardcover.

Inscription signed by the author on the half-title: "To --- follow the light with your photography". First Edition, as stated on the copyright page. With essays by Colin Fletcher (An Invitation), John Alinder (Working in the Quiet Light: The Photography of John Sexton) and John Sexton (A Sacred Place).

The first collection of Sexton's black and white nature photographs. Working in the West Coast tradition of his mentor Ansel Adams, Sexton's photographs are taken in "quiet light" - a luminous glow of gentle light he finds occasionally at dawn, but more often late in the date, after the sun has set. Pictured here are intimate views rather than expansive vistas, distinguished by tonal delicacy and a formal elegance. Climes pictured here are mainly in the Western U.S. - with the addition of a few images photographed in Maine, New Hampshire, Canada, China and Japan.
