Ch'an and Zen Teaching, Volume 1

York Beach, Maine: Samuel Weiser, Inc., 1993.
First Thus. Paperback.

First Weiser edition of the work first published in 1960 by Rider & Company, London. The first of a three-volume series featuring translations of important Buddhist works. In this first series, Lu K’uan Yu shows us the practice as taught by the late Ch’an Master, the Venerable Hsu Yun. This practice elaborates upon the secret technique known as Hua t’ou, taught only in Japanese zendos. Lu K'uan Yu presents six representative stories (kung-ans) of Ch’an Masters from the Imperial Selection of Ch’an Sayings and translates the Diamon and Heart Sutras with the Commentary of Ch’an Master Han Shan. Marie-Louise von Franz has said that this was the book Carl Jung was reading on his deathbed.
