George Platt Lynes 1907 - 1955

Koln: Taschen, 2000.

Foreword by Anatole Pohorilenko. No statement of later printing on copyright page.

A monograph on the work of photographer George Platt Lynes. Included here are examples of his celebrity portraits (including luminaries like Thomas Mann, Igor Stravinsky, Countess Bismarck, Gertrude Stein, and fellow photographers Cecil Beaton and Henry Cartier-Bresson), photographs of the New York City Ballet, fashion images produced for magazines of the 30s and 40s, mythological themes, and nudes. His work in general exhibits a high level of artistry and technique, but he brings a palpable appreciation for the male form to his work with nude males included here, setting the stage for the future work of Robert Mapplethorpe and Bruce Weber.
