Napoleon's Imperial Guard Uniforms and Equipment: Volume 1 - The Infantry (Signed by the Artist)

Yorkshire & Philadelphia: Frontline Books, 2019.

First Edition. Signed by contributing artist Keith Rocco on the title page in year of publication.

From its origins as the Consular Guard of the French Republic, and as Napoleon's personal bodyguard, the Imperial Guard developed into a force of all arms numbering almost 100,000 men. Used by Napoleon as his principal tactical reserve, the Guard was engaged only sparingly, being deployed at the crucial moment of battle to turn the tide of victory in favor of the Emperor of the French.

This is a detailed guide to the uniforms and equipment of the infantry of the Imperial Guard drawn from primary source material, much of which is held in the French military archives in Paris, and is translated into English here for the first time. Included are illustrations and images of original items of equipment held in museums and private collections around the world. In addition, Keith Rocco has provided a series of six paintings of uniformed guardsmen for the book reproduced here in six full-page full-color plates.
