William Bartram (1739-1823) was an American naturalist, ornithologist, and explorer and “Travels” chronicles his explorations in the Southern Colonies between 1773 and 1777. Not only considered one of the foremost books on American natural history of its day, the book provides an early perspective on the historical sites and native peoples Bartram encountered on his journeys.
