Cy Twombly: Photographs 1951 - 2007

Schirmer / Mosel, 2008.
Hardcover.

Text in German and English. Essay translated from the original German by Daniel Mufson.

Monograph on the photographic work of American abstract artist Cy Twombly (1928-2011). Though mostly recognized for his painting and sculpture, Twombly began working seriously in photography as an artistic medium in about 1980. His minimalistic photographs, in matte colors and on matte paper, are produced using a “dry-print” process that gives them a grainy painterly appearance redolent of fin-de-siecle sepia-toned photographs. His subject matter includes images of his ateliers in Lexington and Gaeta and details of sculptures and paintings, collectibles and interiors, landscape motifs, seascapes, fruits, and flowers.
