Georgian Dublin: Twenty-Five Aquatint Views in Colour
Dublin: The Dolmen Press.
Hardcover.
First Edition thus.
Featuring twenty-five historic views in colour aquatint of Dublin. Malton's views were originally created in the final decade of the eighteenth century and reflect his "admiration at the beauty of the capital of Ireland" and his wish to share it with the world.
The views in this pocket-sized edition of Malton's colour aquatints depict Dublin in its finest era - the period in which the present layout of the city emerged and during which many of its classical buildings were erected. The views range from the courtyard of Dublin Castle, past Gandon's riverfront masterpieces, the Custom House and the Four Courts, to a simple street scene at Capel Street bridge, peopled with the Dubliners of over two centuries ago.
