In this work, first published in an article in Scribner's Magazine in of June of 1888, Theodore L. De Vinne charts the dramatic story of famed printer Christopher Plantin (1514-1589), the history the Plantin-Moretus Press, and of the museum located in the press's final offices in Antwerp.
Item #9024134-1/4 x 6-3/8", full vellum with gilt titles and decoration, deckled edges, 54pp, hand-colored frontis., hand-colored decorative initial depicting Christopher Plantin's printer's device (a hand emerging from the clouds holding a pair of compasses, one leg at rest and one inscribing a circle) by Valenti Angelo.
Fine in very good slip-case with a bit of toning to edges.
