#11 of a Limited Edition of 377 copies from type that was distributed immediately after printing. Signed by the author on the colophon. This signed limited edition preceded both the U.S. and U.K. trade editions. This copy is in its original onion-skin wrapper, blue dust wrapper and slipcase and is seldom found so richly accessorized.

This last complete novel by Joseph Conrad (1857-1924) follows the exploits of a veteran seaman in the south of France during the French Revolution.

6 x 8-7/8", vellum paper over boards with a frigate stamped in gilt on the front board and spine, green and gilt decoration and gilt titles, gilt top-edge, deckled fore- and bottom-edges, frontis. portrait from an etching by Muirhead Bone with printed tissue guard, 371pp.

An exceptional copy with original onionskin wrapper, original printed dust wrapper and original slipcase with decorative spine title label numbered 11. The parchment is unusually bright with foxing to spine and edges of boards, corners are crisp, book is tight and free of owner's marks, offset toning and foxing to endpapers, foxing to preliminary leaves and fore-edge, internal leaves clean, edges uncut, in rare original toned onionskin without edge-wear and complete original spine-toned blue dust wrapper. Dust wrapper has a clean split full length of fold where front panel and spine meet, with two 3/8" tears bottom edge of rear panel, and a 2 x 5" strip where top layer of wrapper has rubbed away lower edge of front panel. In intact edge-worn and toned slip-case. A very good copy rarely found in this state.
