Elfriede Martha Abbe (1919-2012) was an American sculptor, wood engraver, and botanical illustrator. After retiring from her job as an artist at Cornell University in 1974, Abbe worked from her home in Vermont where she created numerous hand-printed books on a printing press in her studio.
Item #90247610-1/2 x 14-1/2", quarter gold linen, printed title and artist labels on spine, marbled paper over boards, yellow endpapers, unpaginated, 10 full-page engravings, 7 vignettes.
Wear to fragile paper over boards, binding a bit amateur, but the print work is exceptional, the engravings are vivid and quite lovely, and the leaves are white and bright. Overall a very good copy, but internally very fine.
