Printed in an edition of one hundred thirty-five numbered copies. #122 of 135 copies printed on Japanese paper from the original blocks, wood initials and hand set type. Wood Engravings by Elfriede Abbe. Typography, printing and binding are by the artist. The type face is Goudy Deepdene Italic.

Yellow illustration of the golden compass on the title page, ten full-page wood engravings, five engraved vignettes on text pages, colored initials on every text page, yellow accent representing light behind initial on "And God said let there be Light and there was Light."

Elfriede Martha Abbe (1919-2012) was an American sculptor, wood engraver, and botanical illustrator. After retiring from her job as an artist at Cornell University in 1974, Abbe worked from her home in Vermont where she created numerous hand-printed books on a printing press in her studio.

10-1/2 x 14-1/2", quarter gold linen, printed title and artist labels on spine, marbled paper over boards, yellow endpapers, unpaginated, 10 full-page engravings, 7 vignettes.

Wear to fragile paper over boards, binding a bit amateur, but the print work is exceptional, the engravings are vivid and quite lovely, and the leaves are white and bright. Overall a very good copy, but internally very fine.
