Twenty full page wood engravings by Constance Fowler printed from the original blocks by Frank McCaffrey at his Dogwood Press in an edition of 250 copies. The historical context of each engraving is described on facing pages by the artist. In a beautiful custom leather binding by book artist Sandra Lopez with the look of a Western saddle bag - tan suede leather with two leather ties and two decorative buttons affixed to front board.

The engravings depict extant (1938) landmarks and relics from a period before 1872 within a radius of thirty miles of Salem Oregon. The artist's "aim in presenting this work is to portray, in an artistic way, life in those early years." Among her subjects:
