Allen Press Book #50. Limited edition of one hundred forty copies. Illustrations by by French artist Michele Forgeois. The type faces are Romanee for the text, Solemnis for display. The ancient language characters for decorating the heads of text pages are those of countries and tribes in the Israel area when the Old Testament was compiled: for JONAH, Sumerian; JUDITH, Jacobites of Syria; RUTH, Hebrew. The all-rag paper was handmade at The Twinrocker Mill, Indiana, and was printed damped on our Albion handpress, built 1881 by D & J Greig Company of Edinburgh, Scotland. The brown cover paper is Roma, handmade at the Fabriano Mill, Italy. The hinged boxes are covered with a fabric imported from Paris especially for this edition; the boxes were made by Cardoza-James Binding Company, San Francisco. Designed and produced entirely by hand by Lewis & Dorothy Allen at The Allen Press. Prospectus laid in.
The text is based on that of The Modern Reader's Bible, edited by Richard D. Moulton; and also, The Cambridge Authorized Version, 1611.
Item #9024957-1/4 x 11", paper wrappers around text printed on folded sheets gathered into sections but unsewn, with the titles printed in gold, housed in a vermilion cloth drop-back box, with title stamped in gold on the cover.
Very fine in original clamshell case.
