Tasked with the curation of an exhibition of Arts & Crafts textiles for the Pasadena Museum of History, Ann Chaves attempted to collect representative samples that would show changing design ideals and developing attitudes about the artistic value of needlework which occurred at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Chase included textiles from England, Europe, and the United States, including samples from the Art Nouveau and Secessionist Movements, and Style Liberty from Italy and expanded the design period from 1860 to 1920 to include works and writings by the very earliest designers. The depth and breadth of the collection demonstrates the synergy and development of these ideas and designs between countries over time.
