The type face is Bulmer, hand-set, printed on the Colts Armory press; the paper is handmade Japanese vellum; and the paper for the binding is French handmade. Seven delicate allegorical wood engravings by Blair Hughes-Stanton. Mallette Dean engraved a large xylographic 'by' for the title-page, used as a binder or tie for the varying lines of type. Printed by Lewis & Dorothy Allen at The Allen Press.
A novella of a fictional voyage from Liverpool to San Francisco during the Gold Rush years (1851) written jointly by Charles Dickens and his friend Wilkie Collins and originally published as the 1856 Christmas extra edition of Dickens' magazine Household Words. On the voyage, the ship hits an iceberg and the passengers and crew share stories. Among their narratives is the captain's account of the disaster and an account of the survivor's rescue.

Crease and toning to spine, light wear to edges of boards, mild toning to leaves, small bookseller's label last paste-down endpaper, tight, clean of owner's marks, square, very good in original clean acetate dust wrapper with a bit of chipping to spine ends.
