Lafferty” is written in ink on last page after acknowledgements - perhaps as a bow to the science fiction author’s influence on Neil Gaiman. Gaiman corresponded with Gaiman during his adolescence and wrote a short story called “Sunbird” in Lafferty’s style that was included in Fragile Things. In the introduction to that collection, Gaiman called Lafferty “the best short story writer in the world” during the late 1960s and early 1970s. First Avon Books Printing. Author’s first novel.
The life of a young London businessman with a good heart is changed forever when he stops to help an injured girl and is plunged into a world he never dreamed existed. Slipping through the cracks of reality, Richard lands in Neverwhere--a London of shadows and darkness, monsters and saints, murderers and angels that exists entirely in a subterranean labyrinth.
