From the French rural working class, French painter Gaston Chaissac (1910-1964) became interested in art while living in Paris in the 1930's. His raw naïve style is primarily associated with the Art Brut (Outsider Art) movement led by Jean Dubuffet and the artist described his own work as "modern rustic".
