Mineral specimens from the collection of Clara Smale and her husband noted mathematician Steve Smale. The collection contains 2000 pieces, most ranging from two to seven inches in diameter. The specimens have been collected while the couple lived in various locations around the world and come predominantly from Europe, the United States, Brazil, China and India. The book contains brilliantly colored full-page plates, 70 by photographer Jeff Scovil and 30 taken by collector Steve Smale. Photography, captions, and commentary by Smale provide interesting insights into the mineral specimen trade.
