Pseudo-Isochromatic Plates for Testing Color Perception
Philadelphia & New York: American Optical Company / Beck Engraving Co., Inc., 1940.
Hardcover.
Eighteen Pseudo Isochromatic Plates with instruction to be used in screening for red-green color blindness. The material has been sampled and approved by the Inter-Society Color Blindness Studies (ISCC Problem 11: Color Blindness Studies) and corresponds with that studied by Hardy, Rand, and Rittler of the Institute of Ophthalmology, New York (A Screening Test for Defective Red-Green Vision, Journal of the Optical Society of America 37, 1946).
Instructions for the researcher examining a test subject: The source of illumination to be used is the Macbeth Easel Lamp (Macbeth Corporation, NYC). The subject should be seated with his eyes about 30 inches from the test book. He is shown the demonstration plate (a red 12 on a blue background, a malingering test) and instructed to read the number or numbers on this and the following charts. The examiner allows for response time of about 2 seconds per plate. No further instructions are to be given and no questions asked. The subjects is not allowed to trace the patterns or to touch the test plates. Responses should be immediate (within 2 seconds). Hesitant or studied responses are viewed with suspicion (interesting choice of words!). Responses may be entered on a score sheet similar to that provided. Number of plates failed is the subject's error score.
Incorrect response to 4 or fewer plates indicates normal color vision. Incorrect response to 5 or more plates indicates defective red-green vision.
