From the 15th-century Florentine manuscript purchased as part of the New York Public Library Spencer Collection in July of 1946. The manuscript has been traced to the library of Lorenzo de' Medici's son, Piero, and is handwritten in Greek and illustrated with miniature paintings.
This volume reproduces fables from the original manuscript with accompanying translations of each fable and moral. The creator of the delightful miniatures per Everett Fahy is Gherardo di Giovanni, a contemporary of Leonard da Vinci and Botticelli, and a painter of frescos and panels.
